After passing through massive thunderstorms in Kansas, Colorado gave us a bunch of surprises. The road west of Denver through the mountains is simply magnificent! As we are climbing for a 12000' pass, we can feel the lack of oxygen as manifested by a little nausea and some chest pressure. The rain is the valleys quickly becomes snow in the high mountains. What a contrast with Georgia's extreme and useless heat! When we got in the Vail area, we met with Charlie to whom I sold a piece of flying equipment this winter. He is our host here and quickly became a great genuine friend with whom we share awesome conversations and flying adventures! The invisible is again at play since I barely knew Charlie from emails and phone calls exchanged. I had a good vibe and my intuition did not fail me once again! In Colorado, all the mountains are huge and the flying sites are impressive. From the different launches I contemplate the flight and landing approach with a few chills running down my spine! Wolcott is at 8800' elevation and the LZ is at 6600. Up high like that, the air is thin and we need to RUN fast to launch and land. The Colorado weather is quite hard to predict, even the locals are guessing at times. One moment the air looks good, then when the gliders are set up, a massive storm is upon us! We have not yet flown in Colorado for this reason. Hopefully tomorrow the forecast will remain good. We are getting used to the elements and are now acclimated to the altitude. We have hopes for a taste of this Colorado air!
