Super vol à la pointe - Awesome flight to the Point

---  It had been 3 years that I wanted to fly to the point from the Lookout ramp. The point is 12 miles down the ridge and lies above the town of Chattanooga, TN. It’s 12 miles of flying in dynamic winds along this beautiful ridge. Launching was great after waiting for 5 hrs on the top of the mountain. The winds had finally decreased into my range of acceptable winds of 15-20 miles/h. There was some strong thermals left but also some huge sink areas. As I was watching other people attempting the point with very little altitude, I decided to wait for the air to be more consistent for mostly ridge soaring conditions. At some point I started to fly north and as I was maintaining my altitude, I just kept going north. I had Camille on the radio so at least one person was aware of my plans to fly to the point and back. A moment of chills crossed my back as I realized I was engaged on the point’s aerial path. My friends James and Scott were on their way back from the point when I saw them flying towards me. I made a sign to Scott that I was also going, he gave me the thumbs up, turned around and accompanied me on my first journey to the point. What a special moment with a friend who was guiding and waiting for me despite his better glider performance. A true communication of the invisible as he was making circles to let me catch up with him and I was staying focused on my path and glide. Arrived close to the point I had lost enough altitude to be almost at the same level as the ridge. There are no landing fields for the last mile or more before the point so I knew I needed to gain some before engaging on the last part. Ask and you’ll receive : I hit a beautiful boomer and gained a 1000 ft of altitude credit to make it to the point and back! Yeessss! Coming back on Lookout LZ, I had to do an emergency landing to go pee‼ It was a beautiful 2h20 flight with a great landing and celebration with friends.
Camille and I are presently on the road trying to reach Colorado. We wanted to be there tonight but got super delayed du to severe thunderstorms in Kansas! If you want to drive in the APOCALYSPE, take a stroll through Kansas! We didn’t know it was the area where there are the most tornados and severe weather in the world! We had to pull up twice on the side of the road because the storm was so strong! A few arrythmias later we took the road again happy to escape the next storm cell and to evolve towards a pink sky at the end of the black tunnel. The invisible is pretty delicious after an extreme manifestation of the forces of nature.

Premier vol de distance - first cross-country flight!

-  It's been already a few days that this fabulous moment happened but I'm still surfing on the energy wave that this 18 miles long flight gave me between Withwell and Galoway, TN. I was warmly welcomed by the owner of the field where I landed, the cold Pepsi felt great! That day I really thought that my flight would be short since my friend Jen landed shortly after launching. Contrary to the day before, I was without expectations, without stress and I was going to be contempt with whatever the flight would offer me. In fact, the day before I prepared myself, I had a plan, a goal to get to Galoway, I was burning steps without knowing it, I was stressed and uncomfortable. The 2 flights of that day were short and the intense heat reminded me of the incredible amount of work compared with the time harvested. Nonetheless, these flights prepared me by allowing me to know my flight instrument, to visualize the plan that I executed the next day. Thanks to my friend Dean who flew with me that day and gave me a couple of pushes to keep going even though he had to land. Thanks also to my friends Jen, Camille, Marc and Diana who encouraged me and followed my evolution over the radio, I wasn't alone! The pleasure of distance flying has now hooked me, I'm loving it! I think it is somewhat the ultimate version of flying for me as it is the integration of all the knowledge acquired over the past 5 years.

Génial, on continue! - Once again I dislocated and reduced my left shoulder when I landed softly and with grace! Well, 7 days post dislocation I was back in the air flying and 2 weeks post dislocation I started to land on my feet again! Landing on the feet is the most vulnerable position for the shoulder so I'm super careful. I had to cross all the steps of taming my fears in order to regain confidence in my skills. Tonight I landed twice on my feet in a field without wind! Let's keep goin!

Moment présent et dose d'amour intense - present moment and intense dose of love

-
The quest for the invisible is very active and the present moment fills my days so much that I find it hard to find time to sit in front of the computer. After a shoulder dislocation where performance took over safety, it was a friendly reminder that my structure needs to be reinforced. I'm considering a surgery. Well, I applied my magic recipe and was able to fly my wing 7 days post dislocation.
Yesterday a man flew into the trees to start the day. I'm always very emotional when there's a rescue going on. When I work in the ER as a nurse it's not the same as being right there on site. It's like a massive dose of love is being sent to this one person, this one life to be saved and everything is organized around this goal in an impressive manner! So the pilot finally landed on the ground and was fine.
Beside these little dramas, the flights have been good here at Lookout, I went from flying with pain, tension and fear to being much more relaxed and painfree. Today is supposed to be really good, my plan is to be one with the thermal.

The dunes are still as fascinating and mystical as ever! Since 2008 I come back here and still love em like the first day. The flights contribute to the aerial portion of the invisible while the beautiful encounters contribute to the spiritual portions of the invisible.

Before leaving

So much stuff to do, so little time it seems!
My car is finally frontly hitched and I just renewed my knowledge of weather and regulation thanks to Richard Roussin! Will do the intermediate HG + HAGAR exam before leaving and I'll be set! All papers in order, insurance covering me toes to brain, I can't wait for the big day! Until then, I'm finishing this semester like a piece of art and contemplating my horizons before launching this quest for the invisible... See you soon!
